DirecTV Packages or Charter Digital Cable
Two of the big players in the cable television landscape today are Charter cable and Direct TV satellite service. If these big media companies are on your radar when it comes to selecting a satellite or cable company, you may be confused about what they claim to offer, and how much it is going to cost. The smart thing to do is sit down and make a list of what each company has to offer, and of course price out everything they offer. Here are a few things to consider when comparing Charter cable against satellite.
HD Channels – While both cable and satellite now offer hi def content, Dish beats Charter cable quite handily as far as the actual number of channels. DirecTV claims over 130 HD channels, though that number is a bit inflated. They actually have about 90 when you remove the PPV stations. Charter cable TV maxes out at 60 in the best case, and many areas have fewer HD channels depending on the network. Using the Charter digital video recorder will help you get more out of your cable TV package.
Sports channels – You will be able to find plenty of sports with either company, as both carry all of the local networks and the regional sports channels. If you want out of market sports content as your top priority, DirecTV satellite is the best choice over Dish and Charter. They have exclusive rights to the NFL Sunday Ticket bundle, but it doesn’t end there. Other packages found on satellite TV but missing from Charter cable include the NBA League Pass and the NASCAR Hotpass serires.
Bundled options – One downfall of satellite television service is that they don’t have the ability to compete with Charter service when it comes to the triple play. Charter communications can offer packaged services which also add fast internet access and local calling through your home phone. Combining these services with your cable television company is convenient as far as billing and customer service issues.
So which service is the right one for your family? Of course only you can make the final choice on what is best. While high definition channels and premium sports programming may be top priorities for some of us, they aren’t a big deal to others. Evaluating both options and the overall costs will insure that you make the correct decision for your particular situation.
